Shroom and Gloom drops new demo, announce Devolver as publisher, bursts onto Steam! May 2025

Yo Shroomers!

Team Lazerbeam here with another monthly dev log. This one is a doozy, crammed full of the hottest beans we’ve ever spilled, so let’s dive straight in!

Devolver Digital confirmed!
We’ve just made a huge announcement, celebrating a whole bunch of good news! At the top of this list is the reveal that the radical folks at Devolver Digital have joined our quest to bring you the most dazzling deckbuilder ever!

We are so stoked to be bringing this game into the world with Devolver Digital. Having self published every one of the games we’ve released over the last decade, this is an absolutely monumental event for us.

We’re so excited to be working with Devolver, ensuring Shroom and Gloom can reach the widest audience possible. On that front we’re very happy to share that…

Shroom and Gloom is on Steam!

After months of people begging us to open Steam wishlists, we’re delighted to share that our Steam page is finally live!

We’ve marked this occasion by dropping not one, but two Shroom and Gloom videos! First, there’s our Steam reveal trailer:

And then the dev Intro, where Ben Lazerbeam gives you a quick crash course in how Shroom and Gloom plays, and some of the game design pillars that make Shroom and Gloom the beautifully chaotic beast that it is:

If you’d like to show your support, murder that wishlist button and prepare to leave a glowing Steam review after you bless your library with…

The brand new Shroom and Gloom demo!

We’re delighted to share one last mega-milestone; Shroom and Gloom has officially graduated from being a prototype to becoming a demo! The demo is availible both on Steam, and right here on our beloved itch.io!

We launched the first public version of the SnG prototype on itch last September. It was a janky buggy mess, but there was enough of a spark to convince us we were onto something special. We kept rolling out improved versions of the prototype over the following months, with the latest (v0.4.47) dropping in early February of this year. To celebrate bringing the game to Steam, and the prototype becoming a far more polished and stable experience, we’re delighted to make the jump to calling this thing a demo rather than a prototype. There still some very rough edges, a few rogue bugs and some essential features missing, but the core experience is a solid one.

For people who might have played the prototype, we’d certainly recommend returning to Shroom and Gloom to check out how things are playing in the demo. There are HEAPS of rad new additions and improvements. Curious about what they are? We’ve got a list of highlights for you!
