Hi Snow Cones fans and friends! Ben from Team Lazerbeam, checking in to chat about our best loved frozen-treat dating-sim!

As I write this, on the 26th of March 2020, it's still hard to believe how this silly little game continues to connect with new players. With no expectations at all, we birthed this mutant game baby into the World in December 2015, and were pretty much immediately blown away by how the game resonated with players. The band and I felt we'd make something we were proud of, but didn't think it'd find any kind of significant audience. Instead, people loved our weird game about ice cream cones going on a date! By April 2016, we had found so many cute lets plays, that we edited them into this montage:

I can't tell you how good it felt watching each of the lets plays. Seeing how our weird jokes landed and how our personal experiences resonated with others was amazing. We pretty quickly set to work plotting out the future for Snow Cones, coming up with an idea for an 8 part saga that would explore different phases of Pink and Blue's relationship.

In the following months, we made Snow Cones 2 over our free time, slowly chipping away at the much more ambitious sequel over nights and weekend. Snow Cones 2 launched on the 8th of September 2018. It was a tough process getting it done, but we were very happy to finally get it out to people. For a long time after that Team Lazerbeam was collectively done with The Snow Cones Universe.

Over the following years, Snow Cones 1 and 2 continued winning over the occasional fan. Once in a while we'd receive a generous payment (amazing since the game is free) or an enthusiastic comment (amazing since we imagined the games forgotten). It was encouraging that here and there, the games were still connect with new people. And then something amazing happened. One day, we logged into our itch dashboard and found that in the past 24 hours, Snow Cones had been downloaded more times than it had in the entire year before that! The games had gotten a sudden wave of new fans, thanks to a certain youtuber called DanTDM:



Thanks to Dan's playthrough of Snow Cones 1 and 2, we found waves of people showing up to download the games, something that still continues to this day. A few months back, someone posted a request for Snow Cones Episode 3, and quite shockingly, 1200 other people game that a thumbs up!

We're absolutely floored by the unexpected interest that these games have gotten. We've been left SUPER excited about getting back to the Snow Cones Universe and making Episode 3 a reality. While we're busy wrapping up our current game, we're bouncing ideas around, and making plans for what episode 3 will look like.
